Set in Okinawa, Japan, Momoko Akiyama, the temperamental daughter of two intellectuals, has always considered World War II as a faraway problem. Her only worries are the political dissidents who come to her house, her brother's disappearances every Wednesday in the early dawn hours, and bullying at school.
